On the date on which I am writing to you (November 11, 2021), the calendars are fixed and the dates known! In less than 3 weeks, the largest Christmas markets in Alsace will meet their long-awaited visitors. After a year 2020 without a Christmas market due to covid, this year 2021 sees the return of what makes the joy of young and old, even if precautions are of course still necessary.

The Christmas period in the Upper Rhine Valley begins every year on the first weekend and Sunday of Advent, more or less a month before Christmas and even from November 20 for some Christmas markets. A large number of Christmas events are organized throughout the region: Christmas markets, concerts, storytelling and nativity scenes.
In the Rhine area of the Upper Rhine, the cities of Colmar, Strasbourg, Mulhouse, Obernai (20/11), Freiburg-im-Breisgau (Germany) and Basel (Switzerland) and Montbéliard will open their Christmas markets from the end of November 2021!

This is a full day out and even part of the night to show you the magic of Christmas in southern Alsace.
We will start the day by immersing ourselves in the traditional Alsatian Christmases of yesteryear. You will discover secrets for an authentic Christmas, long forgotten.
The magnificent Christmas atmosphere in the heart of Mulhouse will then welcome us. It has an exceptional characteristic: each year, each time different, the Christmas Fabric is created for the occasion and refers to Mulhouse’s rich industrial and artistic past in weaving
Finally, on a well-established night, the magic of Christmas in the garden and its fabulous characters will amaze us at Wesserling Gardens.

We start with the Strasbourg Christmas market. Then we head to Baden-Baden and Gengenbach in Germany. In other words, a full day of a magical and colourful experience.
Strasbourg’s Christmas market dates back to 1470. In other words, it is not a recent event imagined for tourists. After Strasbourg, we will head north and cross the Rhine to visit the Baden-Baden Christmas market in Germany. Baden-Baden is a small European town well known for its luxury boutiques. The beauty of the Christmas market chalets lives up to the reputation of this prestigious spa town.
Finally, we will end this beautiful day with the giant Advent calendar of the small medieval town of Gengenbach. In this historic city, the Town Hall is decorated like a giant Advent calendar.
