Throughout the 170 kilometers of the wine route of Alsace, nearly 4,000 winemakers cultivate their vines. Three-quarters of them deliver their grapes to cooperatives or traders. A little more than 900 Alsatian winemakers produce a multitude of different wines and bottle themselves. From north to south of the region, terroirs are legion. The combination of varietals and terroirs personalised by the “paw” of the winemaker gives a multitude of wines that, over the past decades, have risen to the rank of the greatest wines in the world, although many Alsatians do not know it yet. Certainly, small wines of thirst still exist but Alsace has much better to offer and deserves a lot better, especially with its beautiful terroirs and grand cru. And they are easy to find!

Addresses of my favorite winemakers in Alsace
I do not intend to deliver here a list of ranking wines. I am not an oenologist or a professional taster. I do not have any wine for sale or participation in any vineyard. I am simply proud of being a gourmand of good food and a great lover of (good) wines that I do not want to approach by a bias too technical but just for the pleasure they give me. Here are addresses of winemakers that I love and especially that I know personally. In my list (which is expected to lengthen) it obviously lacks many great winemakers. It’s not because I do not like their wines. It’s simply because I have not (yet) met them. My list is personal and arbitrary. I claim it as such. It is primarily intended for the many visitors who stay with us at our Riquewihr Ramparts vacation rentals and who come from all over the world. Some of these visitors are wine professionals who already have their own contacts but are also looking for new discoveries off the beaten path. Others are wine lovers in search of beautiful addresses or travellers on the lookout for a new experience. I willingly share with these people because they come to Alsace without a priori, their mind and taste buds wide open.
The winegrowers of Riquewihr

I respond to the most immediate request addressed to me, which comes from all those who stay in one of our holiday apartments in Riquewihr or La Vancelle. But I will not fall into false modesty either: the Riquewihr terroir is exceptional and since the Middle Ages, the wines from this vineyard are famous for their high quality and have been exported to the four corners of the planet. The architectural opulence of the village, unrivaled elsewhere in the vineyards of Alsace, is there to testify. It is the wealth created by the Riquewihr winegrowers in the golden age of Alsace wine that is at the origin of this historical jewel.
From the small studio to the large luxury apartment, the Remparts de Riquewihr is a collection of 14 charming holiday gites superbly located in one of the most beautiful villages of France.
Jewel on the Alsace wine route Riquewihr will be your headquarters to discover all the Alsace, the Vosges and even nearby Germany and Switzerland.

At the same time, Riquewihr is geographically located roughly in the middle north / south of the wine route. My other addresses are organised in 2 chapters below, village by village, north and south of Riquewihr. I preferred a link to the Facebook page of each domain (when it exists) because that pages are often more up-to-date than websites. When there is no FB page and the website is not up to date I have not indicated any link.

More about Alsace wines
A wine from Alsace can match any occasion. Delicious as an aperitif, the wines of Alsace are also perfect partners for fish and seafood. But Alsace wines also agree with poultry, white meats, game, the famous duck foie gras or goose, exotic recipes (Thai, Indian, Chinese or Creole are perfect with the wines of Alsace), desserts and, what might surprise, they accompany the cheese wonderfully!
Regularly our guests staying in our holiday apartments in the historical village of Riquewihr were insisting in having the opportunity to get deeper in the world of our local wines. With this new private (10 people maximum) wine seminar in English open to every wine lover we are fulfilling their wishes!

Our former winery was built in 1580 and recently converted into 6 wonderful holiday apartments superbly located in one of the most beautiful villages of France.
Jewel on the Alsace wine route, Riquewihr will be your headquarters to discover all the Alsace, the Vosges and even nearby Germany and Switzerland.
